"Sana Sana, colita de rana. Si no sanas hoy, sanarás mañana"
My name is Monica Magtoto and I'm an artist, reiki practitioner, tarot nerd, and yoga teacher based in San Francisco, California.
I believe that all work is energy work. Whether I'm painting, teaching yoga, practicing reiki, reading someone's cards, etc. we are collaborating with the universe to bring something into view that was not there before. My mission is to serve folks that would not ordinarily seek out these modalities, focusing especially on BIPOC women and femmes and the LGBTQIA* community. However, my services are available to everyone.
In this work, I will use a variety of modalities to address your needs. I believe that we are complex beings and our needs should be addressed in a holistic way. This work is meant to compliment wherever you are at on your physical, spiritual, and mental health journey, not to replace any treatments or therapies you are using.
My Tarot and Energy Work Experience:
I have been interested in tarot and energy work since childhood. I have since expanded my studies to include tarot and other forms of cartomancy, the eight limbs of Yoga, Reiki, 13th Octave La Ho Chi, different facets of Curanderismo, as well as dipping my toe into the studies of Hilot from the Philippines, herbalism, and more.
During my 200 hour and 500 hour yoga teacher trainings, I dove deeper into my studies of the energetic body. Learning about the chakra system, ayurveda, pranayama (breath control), restorative yoga, along with many other topics eventually lead me to Reiki. I received my 1st degree and 2nd degree Reiki attunements from Usui Reiki Masters Sandra Wong, Ph.D. and Teresa Visini, MA. I received my Reiki Master Certification from Shannon O'Neill-Loyola. I also received my certification in 13th Octave LaHoChi from Shannon O'Neill-Loyola. Since then, I have expanded my studies in both Reiki, tarot, and other energy work modalities and I am excited to incorporate those in the future. I am always learning!
It is important to me to acknowledge that I do not come from an Indian or Japanese background and that our yoga and reiki practices in the west are extremely different and often appropriative of their counterparts in their respective countries of origin. It is my goal to practice these modalities with respect for their history, culture, and traditions while also serving my community in a responsive and adaptive way. I will never be perfect, and I will probably make mistakes, and I will continue to do my best to educate myself, honor these practices, and dismantle these extractive systems of oppression.
